POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY is the science of optimal human functioning and well-being, often described as the study of happiness, optimism, positivity, resilience, strengths and flourishing. It was established in the late 1990s to counter the direction that mainstream psychology was heading in, with a prevailing focus on the negative aspects of our minds and behaviour, overlooking questions such as what it takes for us to feel good, function well and flourish in our personal and professional lives. This is what positive psychology addresses through its scientifically-proven techniques.
